Student work I could pass off as my own..

anna sophia's arrangement

Gorgeous study in drama by Anna Sophia from the last flower class.

We've been busy with The Little Flower School since we got back from Iceland - Nicolette and I. We're working on our winter schedule...in the mix will be a wreath-making class, a second and maybe third rendition of the ever-popular ranunculus study, and - my personal favorite - a dutch masters class (you don't have to be a master of anything to participate.)

Any requests?
Keep it clean, please.

9:52 waiting for FedEx...

I made this bouquet for a bride last month - we were getting some really good hydrangea (a variety called "unique") and although they are very fragile, a few held up strong enough to use in the bouquet.

Just because I don't talk about all the weddings we're doing doesn't mean we're not busting our nutz around the clock getting folks hitched. I have the spider veins to prove it. Amy finally broke down and bought Dansko's, thank god. And just because I haven't mentioned Pearl Jam lately doesn't mean I'm not spending every free moment looking at concert video's from '92

This past Sunday we did the Succulent Class at Little Flower School - one of my favorite classes yet...every single arrangement was to die for. I'll post all the arrangements soon on the LFS site. (But I just added the pics from Fragrant Flowers...)

Tonight's class from 6-9 is Spring Flowers 101 - Nicolette and I wrangled some early dogwood, fritillarias (3 varieties!), hellebores, ranunculus, tulips, geranium, muscari, narcissus, hyacinth and more to work with...there may be 2 spots left...

If you feel like a night out with flowers and a little Prosecco you could email us right away!

[The above arrangement by Amy was outrageous. Ever thanks to Amy (Merrick) for the photos..]

a wedding from october

One of my favorite couples/weddings from this fall....Rae and Noah have great style...seeing these makes me miss October and of course the dahlias. Love the Betsy Dunlap invites. Love the Metropolitan Building. Love gorgeous photos by Dave Robbins. Love the details pulled together by Xochitl of Always a Bridesmaid.

See more at Martha Stewart...

i was so impressed with this little delivery Amy made last week. everytime I walked by the cooler I admired it - finally I took it out and looked at it closely, from 360 degrees.

eric finally says "what are you doing?"

"student becomes the master" i replied.

if any of you florists out there are looking to steal Amy from us, hands OFF! I've got a stockpile of microwave popcorn, a cute puppy and a few other tricks up my sleeve to keep her here...

HERE IS A DELIVERY FROM THURSDAY.

This morning it seems my google mail account has been hacked by someone or thing intent on selling stupid shit on the internet. And I feel like someone beat me up. Maybe because we've been working in a studio that averages 48 degrees. Which is where I have to go now. To said cold SAIPUA. But we'll be decorating for Christmas today. Fist pump. I'm going to get 3 hot chocolates.
ps, we're teaching Nea to jump rope.

Above photos from a baby shower 2 weekends ago. I used scabiosa, ranunculus, a few types of roses, spirea, anemone, raspberries and pussy willow. We interspersed the arrangements with tall vases of silver pussy willow...i need to see if Amy has photos of that, because it came out nice.

Here is a delivery from last week - I am catching up on emails and downloading many photos today. That pretty leafy stuff in the bottom left is actually spirea! Did you know that nyc has a comparative health insurance website? It is very helpful for individuals and small businesses.

From and order this morning: Purple dahlias, coleus, scabiosa, black-eyed-susans, jasmine.

At some point in the past Eric and I both quit smoking, and tonight I desperately miss it. Lots of things banging around in my head all week to share, but I am one of those writers that has a difficult time actually getting to the writing.

Granted it’s been tough in New York this week, what with the heat and all. Apparently, Darla, our one-tooth wonder is struggling too – as I type this I’m watching her out of the corner of my eye. She’s positioned half-in, half-out of the liter box and cat pee is slowly pooling in the middle of the bathroom floor. I already know that I will probably forget that I witnessed this, and step in it an hour from now.

I had just prepared for myself a fancy chef’s salad, and now I have eaten it. Perhaps you would call this more of an anti-pasta plate, a mingling of marinated artichokes, nostrano salami, arugula, some Spanish cheese which I don’t recall the name of. Once, while heading east on Rt. 6 near Indian Point, Eric and I heard a radio host use the phrase “the finest meats and cheeses in all the land…” ever since we refer to cold cut dinners as such.

Here are some outtakes from my shoot with this little arrangement on Wednesday. I'm working on getting this column rolling, and was shooting all sorts of Ranunucula this week. Desperate to make her debut on the design/home fashion circut, Nea kept sneaking in the shot. I tried explaining that the camera adds 10 pounds - jus' saying - and that if she was serious, she needed to reconsider her between meal snacking.

owning my migraine

its like when you plan a romantic dinner, dress for it and then start seeing strange rainbow squiggles in your vision as you prep a head of fennel. you ignore the squiggles, thinking it's the lamp shining too bright over your counter, and then forget what you're doing with this fennel, or even what you're making for dinner. you look around the kitchen for your bearings and realize that you can't actually focus on anything. that's when it occurs to you that you've felt this way before... before a migraine, and that it's probably not a stroke. but in case it is, you'd had better change out of this ridiculous outfit and apron in case you're boyfriend needs to call an ambulance. this accomplished, you give brief instructions on finishing dinner (slice pear, toss with fennel, olive oil and lemon juice...pork needs 15 more minutes) and run to lay down.

It's two hours later and I'm not dead yet. just a bad headache. and I can see to type straight: thems up there are poppies, the first of the season.

Eric came in this morning "needing" to hear the Escape Pina Colada Song by Rupert Holmes. We found it on YouTube with one of those montages people make. It's not really the music video, its just a collection of images of Angelina Jolie from the movie Wanted. WHY?
