Blerg. I have all these funny moments and things I want to share here, but I'm exhausted and cranky. Need a coffee. Been averaging 4-5 miles a day with this cattle dog. My hip flexors feel like rubber bands. Nea is a dream though and we're having so much fun.
Still missing Ms. P. The top picture shows the flowers we brought the vet in her honor. I walked into the bathroom the other day and there was a black towel on the floor - I thought it was her.
Was really excited to have help from Asheley yesterday - and if you didn't catch on, she'll be contributing here.
I am so behind on paperwork, I have to snap out of it and get to work on wedding bids...
More later when I don't feel like a soggy pancake...which sounds delicious actually.

ps you know that g. girl is on tonight which means I'll probably skip yoga to watch it on our 6" b&w rabbit ear'ed TV. Sure I was once one of those brooklynites that liked to brag about not having TV. Those days are over. No more lounging around in a silk kimono sipping lillet or vemouth on the rocks recalling the Regan administration or disecting Deleuze and Guattari. Instead I sit three inches from the TV on monday nights taking fashion cues from 16 year olds. I'm probably better off.
Also I had the pleasure of meeting Shari yesterday, author of The Glass Doorknob. What a lovely surprise, and a great feeling to realize the world is a bit smaller that I thought.

I was back in the office today after a few days of working at home and resting. Thanks to everyone for all your kind comments about Ms. P.
A few weeks ago I was thinking about hiring an intern. Fortuitously Asheley, a writing major at Pratt, stumbled upon the shop and instantly fell in love with what she saw. So now she's writing this entry into the blog. The next couple of months she (and this is getting weird refering to myself in third person) will attempt some small projects on the blog. A few short stories are forthcoming. Today being her first day, we took the opportunity to get acquainted while playing with what was left of this week's flowers. Here are the arrangements we made.
Today we used: camel roses, black baccarras, peegee hydrangea, bittersweet, renunculi, montreaux tulips, symvidium orchids, echinecha

2 beautiful things, gale don't be mad - I'm still a cat person.
Nea, our new dog came home with us on Sunday. It's a big adjustment for her (and us) but we're having so much fun. I walk a lot, but I've never walked so much as I have in the last 2 days. We clocked 3 miles before lunch. I'll have more pictures soon - hounds and flowers...the bouquet above is one of my recent favorites - majolika roses, dahlias, jasmine, eucalyptus, ranunculus, hydrangea, tweedia, and astilbe.

on prayer, elusive anemones and the GOP
Working on bouquets for weddings tomorrow. With 1 down, I have treated myself to a coffee break.
In line to get coffee I was eyeing the last of some cookie samples and i found myself practically praying (?) that there would be one left by the time i got to the front of line. (There was.)
The gorgeous autumn anemones that have been available on and off at Fischer and Page were left out of my packages this morning and not worth the trip back to the city. if you know these flowers you will sympathize.
I am thinking about Bella Abzug and the current state of feminism. I am wishing politicians would stop abusing the word "maverick."

I was cleaning our bathroom at the shop, i mean office tonight - and though it is not a public bathroom - if you or your small child were here and needed to use it, I'd now let you. I made the mistake of cleaning the toilet first. Everyone knows the toilet is last, like when you were small and you're mother taught you how to take a bath. You wash your feet last, face first.
Eric and I a few days ago were debating the following:
I you had a paper bag that when you reached in it - always produced the same food or drink anytime of day forever - what would it be? I said a perfect chocolate chip cookie, he said a milkshake. (Booze, the obvious answer to this is off-limits.) What would be in your bag?
Also I wanted to share this with you, a new little bar/flower shop in Ditmas Park. Susan an I ate lunch at The Farm on Adderly today and found that the same owners opened Sycamore two doors down. In the front is a gem of a flower shop, the back a bar and glorious garden. Very exciting...

OUR FRIENDS ARE FAMOUS! And other serious matters.
Coming home from the flower market today I stopped into B&N to grab the new OCt. BonAppetit. I continued onto Sahadi's for a cold day-old spanikopita. While inhaling said spanikopita I flipped open the magazine to page 96, and gafawed expressively, propelling flakes of phyllo onto an innocent bystander. Look at Stuart and Alice and this picture of of their farm! It's such a good story, and it will tell you how to fix mustard greens and stuff!! And mom there is a whole article on canning!! Please stop making salsa!!!

In other news Eric and I have decided not to call the store "the store" because we realized that it carries no weight with people when we say "I'm going to the store," It could mean candy store, or grocery store...instead of "I'm going to work on some serious work stuff at work ... so from now on Saipua will be known as The OFFICE. So today, I'm at the office, having office hours, sorting through pictures from the last coupla days. Writing emails that are long over due. Googling vertigo ... my latest hypochondria.
But AH HA! pictures ... here are some:

"listen up everybody if you wanna take a chance..."
A few pictures from my work the past few days. Feeling a bit frazzled. Weddings, photoshoots and the beat goes on...I reached a new low last night and in a moment of desperation downloaded Hangin' Tough by the New Kids on the Block.

the hadron collider and how I got one step closer to living *in the moment*
Last night Eric and I hit up an opening in Chelsea, and then returned home late to feast on fresh figs (thanks to P, I remembered a pint in my fridge from Monday) with boucheron, rosemary bread and the most beautiful olive oil ever - a deep green color - i don't know what the hype about extra-extra virgin olive oil is, it tastes good when you can taste the sweetness of the olives - in the way olives can be kind of off-sweet I guess...anyway this was paradise - we actually left Red Hook for an evening, and we were eating food of the gods. Perfect, that is, until ERic brought up the subject of the Hadron Super Collider (say Collider like Arnold Swartzenager would...SU-PA COLE-I-DUH) and the evening went to shit. That is to say, I had successfully forgotten about the Hadrom for the past month, and now remembering that they are about to turn it on, felt an instant wave of panic. Eric pushed this further with me by comparing the experiment to a Philip K. Dick novel in which alternative dimensions are found to be co-existing with the present one...mind warping shit like this always gets my goat - in a good - but doomed sort of way I guess. We continued on this topic for a few more minutes while I silently continued my interior downward panic spiral. Then, looking out the window at the house across the street (where the TV is on 24 hours a day) something dawned on me....are you still with me? I thought...as much as I worry about the air suddenly imploding in a fire-y black-hole Armageddon, at this very moment, I can watch the TV flicker from across the street. And the next moment I can still see the TV flicker. And all night, in each moment I can look out and see it. And finally for a hot second I understood what it means to live in the experience of an insular moment. Are you rolling your eyes right now? That's fine! But for me this was somewhat of an epiphany. This coming from a girl who's favorite game to play in Autumn as a child involved scurrying around the yard collecting acorns and berries for the "nuclear winter." Thank you for listening.
IN other more appropriate news...I'm sitting on boxes of gorgeous flowers for a very exciting photo shoot* tomorrow and two weddings. I promise to show some pics later this afternoon.

some ho-hum scenes from the dustbowl of W. Mass
We're back from Brimfield and North Hampton. I wish I had better photos from the fair, but I learned quickly that photographing is not welcome at many booths when I witnessed two young women from Abercrombie and Fitch get reamed for "stealing style ideas" from an antique clothing dealer. I gotta say, I sided with the dealer. Then he gave me a good deal on a 1930's white shawl-collared tuxedo jacket that I like to think belonged to Amelia Earhart. Pics of that to come.
