black_hellebore

IMG_4494

We just got back into town last night after a wild ride through the southern tier in pursuit of hellebores. Nicolette and I..

I am still processing the weekend. In so many ways it was what we jokingly refer to as Beyond

Let me be clear; I have seen hellebores unlike anything I've ever seen in person or in photographs. Hellebores that made me feverish. Hellebores that live in quiet peace on the side of a mountain top in West Virginia.
And I got to see Aaron too.

I'm behind on some pressing maters here in town...but I wanted to pop in to say I miss you and I have a ton of shit to show you the first chance I get...

Did you visit Barry Glick at Sunshine Farm? We have been wanting to visit ever since Bob Wollam told us about that farm. I'm so jealous, the hellebores must have been breathtaking! We will definitely be ordering some of those plants to add to our repertoire. Looking forward to seeing more about your visit!

Unrelated to hellebores (but seriously, they're in full bloom on the promenade in Brooklyn Heights - at least 3 weeks earlier than last year! Oh, global warming), but I saw these tulips by Arjan Benning elsewhere and I thought they bore a certain kinship to your style and wanted to share: http://www.yellowtrace.com.au/2012/02/29/still-life-photography-by-arjan-benning/

Those tulips El mentioned are out of hand exquisite!! They look...almost...metallicized (is that even a word?).

BTW: The hellebores from my VALENTINE bouquet lasted 10 days in the vase! TRUTH.

How do you process hellebores?? I can't seem to get them to hold up more than 24hrs out of the cooler here in Austin. The wholesalers say the same thing - how the heck can they sell them if they fail immediately? Oh, how I wish we had the climate here to grow them.
