nicole - i think maybe that pulla is just supposed to be dense. i've never had it be really fluffy on the inside. i'm not going to give you any advice, b/c honestly it's a miracle that this even turned out considering my horrific baking track record..
Sarah, thanks - the pulla looks wonderful. How did it taste? I sometimes think Finnish housewives use some sort of sorcery to make this bread. Or their nice Tulikivi stone baking/heating ovens! I'm going to Brooklyn once a month to see my in-laws. I'm hoping to make it to your shop one of these trips! hei hei
Sarah, it is all about the cardamon, I agree. Is this the mummo with the mokki cabin in Canada? My mom is from central Finland, not far from Jyvaskyla. Where in Finland is your family from? Sorry I'm nosy, and I'm enjoying your beautiful flower arrangements!
yes, mummo has the cabin in canada. she was from viipuri, which used to belong to finland before ww1 if my history is correct (now its russian territory) her and my grandfather lived in Tampere for years before emigrating to canada in 1951 or so.
ahh, Karelia. I've always wanted to go there but I'm afraid to see what this Viipuri/Vyborg looks like now. I have a cousin living in Tampere. Is your mom Finnish as well? thanks for sharing - this isn't a geneology/Finnish culture blog after all. I won't pester you any longer :)
