YOU MUST..
...try the 36 hour chocolate cookie, which is to say you must make the dough and patiently rest it for at least 24 hours before baking it. which we all know is a stupid torture, as if I've ever had the forethought to say to myself, "gee i'd really kill for a chocolate chip cookie with my coffee TOMORROW afternoon, but not really right now, because right now i'd like to gnaw on a raw carrot."
you can read all about the chemistry here and see the recipe here. eric is kicking a bad habit, and so he's baking a lot as means for distraction. after these were made and eaten he said to me "make sure you pick up some fruit for our cobbler snack tomorrow afternoon." what can I say, my life is charmed.

Nea really wants one of those cookies.....might there be any left on Friday evening??
I wish I lived closer....I'd be right over.

alrighty. i just printed out the recipe. but i'm wondering, are you sure the yumminess comes from waiting 36 hrs and not from the
2 1/2 STICKS OFBUTTER??
nice socks.
borfy borf!
If baking those cookies is how Eric kicks a bad habit, then make sure he NEVER kicks it.
coincidentally, i just made the same recipe. you can bake a few without resting the dough, and it will still be an awesome chocolate chip cookie. bake the rest of the dough later, it will just be better. to get around having to wait, keep a bag of the unbaked cookies in the freezer.
i must try this recipe and see if i can resist the temptations.
I wish not agree on it. I over nice post. Particularly the title attracted me to be familiar with the whole story.
I went through a phase a year and a half ago trying different chocolate chip cookie recipes, including this one. I was inspired by this post: http://www.joythebaker.com/blog/2008/07/the-chocolate-chip-cookie-debate-forth-and-final-edition/ I agree with her that the 36 hours thing is not that important in the grand scheme of cookiedom.
